We have learned of the passing of classmate JoAnn Giofre on December 25th, 2023. JoAnn passed away at the La Bella Nursing Home in Edwardsville. Our sincere sympathy and condolences go out to JoAnn’s sister Donna and all of JoAnn’s family and friends in this time of loss.

We have received word of the passing of classmate Jerry Christopher. We understand that Jerry passed away at home in his sleep Friday night, June 30th. It is our understanding that services will be held for Jerry at Lakeview Gardens Funeral Home in Fairview Heights Illinois. Jerry’s full obituary is now posted in our “Deceased” page.

Frederick A. Poddig, age 76 of Glen Carbon, IL, born June 4, 1947 in East St. Louis, IL, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Memorial Care Center in Belleville, IL.
Frederick was a retired gas line inspector for the former Laclede Gas Company. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, an avid WW II reenactor, and a member of the WW II Historical Society. He was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick C. and Lillian M. (nee Lotz) Poddig; and a daughter, Julie Anne Charlton.
Surviving are his wife, Christine (nee Foehrkolb) Poddig, whom he married August 18, 1984; three sons: Fred (Shaun) Poddig of Edwardsville, IL, Jeffrey Kennedy of Glen Carbon, IL, and Patrick (Jamie) Kennedy of Lebanon, OH; a son-in-law, Brian Charlton of Glen Carbon, IL; six grandchildren: Frederick A. Poddig, Christian M. Poddig, Casandra M. Poddig, Sean Charlton, William Kennedy, and Madeleine Kennedy; five step granddaughters and families: Amy, Kim, Angel, Jessie and Holly; and a sister, Mary Ruth (Joe) Ball of Green Valley, AZ.
Visitation will be 9 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 304 South Street, Collinsville, IL.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kyle Wright officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Collinsville.
Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Endowment Fund and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
We have received word of the passing of classmate Cheryl Johnson Yokawonis. Cheryl passed away suddenly this morning (May 19th 2023) in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. Her full obituary is now posted on our “Deceased” page.

We have learned of the passing of another of our classmates. David Cameron passed away on October 2nd 2022 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Our sincere condolences and sympathy go out to his daughter Kathryn and all of David’s family and friends in this time of loss.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., immediately following the visitation, on Saturday, October 8. Burial will be in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Collinsville.
We have received word of the passing of classmate Mike Cristel. Mike passed away at St. Josephs Hospital in Highland on August 23, 2022, following a month stay there. He had undergone a difficult period of radiation treatment and chemotherapy, and in his final month had a stent and a pacemaker installed. The combination of all of this, along with the damage that his treatments had caused to his lungs, proved to be too much.

We have received word that classmate Keith Largent passed away on July 22, 2022 at his home in Mabalacat City, Philippines. Keith was a USAF Viet Nam veteran, and moved to the Philippines in 2009. Burial will be at Clark Veterans Cemetery in Angeles City, Philippines.

Classmate Terry M. Bannister of League City, Texas, passed away on March 29th, 2022. A memorial service for Terry will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. Terry was born May 21st, 1947.
